The cobbler's children have no shoes.
In the private lessons I give to my clients, we usually spend 10-15 minutes talking about blogs, the benefits and the challenges. One of the things I say in every lesson is, "no blog is better than an abandoned blog."
What I mean is if you don't have time to commit to blogging, then it is okay not to start a blog. That it is perfectly legitimate to focus your energy on other social media tools and marketing channels. Then I ask in advance that they forgive my blog and I make a joke about how the cobbler's children have no shoes.
The past few months, writing blog posts has often been one of the first things to slide to the bottom on my to do list below client meetings, writing strategy documents and teaching. I've found that posting to Tumblr or sharing on Google Reader is easier than writing a full post. This needs to change and so I'm going to publicly commit to my new blog schedule.
Open Tabs is an occasional series that I do featuring the in-depth, thoughtful works that I'm keeping open in tabs in the hopes that I'll be able to read them. I've been sharing them on Google Reader lately, but I'll share a selection of those pieces here every Friday.
Natiiv has been in business over a year, which means I've had a lot of clients come through the door for training. Twice a month, I'm going to bring you updates on what my clients are doing online and offline.
I also want to start writing a bit more commentary on changes in the social media space, but I'm not sure what form that will take. When I started blogging over six years ago, I wrote every day for three years. Eventually Twitter and Facebook replaced daily blogging. So I'm not going to try to become a daily blogger again, but I am going to knock the cobwebs off and start writing regularly.
